Review — LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham

Capsule review and historical context for LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham (2014).

LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham (2014) is the trilogy's biggest swing — a "Batman in space" adventure that fully embraces cosmic DC with a 150+ character roster, the entire Lantern Corps rainbow, and a 16-level bonus campaign of 1966 Bat-show pastiches.

Why it lands: the sheer maximalism. Adam West as a meta tour guide, Brainiac as a credible cosmic threat, Lantern ring construct puzzles that recolour entire levels. The Watchtower hub feels like an actual base of operations rather than a menu.

Why it sometimes doesn't: Brainiac shrink-puzzles overstay their welcome by Chapter 4. Levels are more linear than LB2's. Open-world Gotham is gone — replaced with smaller Lantern World hubs that aren't as satisfying to explore.

Verdict: 8.5/10. The funniest LEGO Batman game and the easiest to recommend to people who liked LB2 and want more. The 1966 bonus campaign alone is worth the price.
